Mr. Thomas Patterson entered eternal rest Saturday, May 19, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice Savannah, INC.
Thomas Lee Patterson, Jr., aka “Bubby” was born January 26, 1957, the third child of the late Thomas, Sr. and Doris Patterson. He made his transition on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the age of 61, following a prolonged illness.
Educated in the Chatham County Public School System, Thomas graduated from Richard Arnold High School in 1976. Along with academics, he enjoyed playing football and basketball. Thomas would share stories of how good of a basketball player he was with his sons, they eventually
challenged him in basketball; well you should know the story ends, he had to show them that age was just a number!
We want you to share with you a few adjectives we use to describe our Dad (T)houghtful, (H)umble, (O)bedient, (M)eek, (A)wesome, (S)trong is what he was to us!
Thomas’ love for God led him to invite family and friends to church, and a few came to visit with him. One particular friend not only visited the church, she committed her life to Christ! This friend later became his wife and best friend, Barbara Gamble Patterson! This union produced eleven loving, devoted children. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them... Psalm 127:4-5.
Several things Thomas will forever be remembered for includes his dedication, honesty, and commitment to whatever he was involved in. This includes his employment at both Carson Products (10 years) and Atlanta Gas and Light Company (30 years). However, he would have worked many more years if it had not been for his failing health which required him to take an early retirement.
Thomas’ example of dedication was exemplified at the early age of 18 when he gave his life to Christ. He would witness to anyone that would stand still long enough to converse with him. His hook was talking about a sport or family, but the catch was sharing the love of Jesus! Thomas was a member of Victory Drive Deliverance Temple for over 20 years where he served as a faithful drummer, choir member and a Sunday School Teacher. In 1989, Thomas and his family joined the Emmanuel Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church, Inc., under the leadership of District Elder Lucille P. Turner. He counted it as a blessing to serve as a drummer and the Brotherhood Secretary. Thomas simply Loved the Lord!!!
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving, caring, devoted, best friend and wife, his “Queen” of 38 years, “His Good Thing,” Barbara Gamble Patterson. His eleven blessed children, (his quiver full), Lorando L. Gamble (Latoya), Thomas L. Patterson, III, Lynette L. Patterson, Charlette S. Griggs (Julius), Bertennia D. Patterson, Jason P. Patterson, Sr., Paulette S. Patterson, Crystal S. Montgomery (Dionte), Kevin L. E. Patterson, Cortney C. Patterson, and Calvin A. Patterson; twenty-seven grands with two on the way; two aunts; seven sisters and one brother (wife); six sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, several God-children and other family members.
“Dally”, “Pops”, “Fat Daddy T.P.”, “Poppa”, we will miss the sound of your voice, the wisdom in your advice, the stories of your life and just being in your presence. Because of the love you’ve shown us, you will always be THE G.O.A.T., (Greatest Of All Time)!!!
Funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Emmanuel Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church, Inc.
